The itinerary starts from the Pievaiola intersection, under Piegaro, and heads towards Tavernelle. After a while, you leave the state road to follow the signs for Ierna-Vignaie. After passing the Nestore stream, continue to climb towards the small hamlet of Refogliano until you reach the asphalted road that climbs from Castiglion Fosco and a dirt road on the left that climbs to a panoramic saddle dominated by the Montalvino hill. You descend on a dirt track with a natural background towards a recently renovated village, known by the word Posante di Sopra.
Further on, beyond Posante di Sotto, you cross the wide dirt road coming from Castiglion Fosco and go left towards Greppolischieto. It is worth making a brief stop in the small village that from the top of its 672 m. dominates the valley of the Fersinone torrent to the south, the Nestore valley to the north. We begin a challenging descent towards the Voc. Colavelce and then along a beautiful ridge between forests of oak, Turkey oak and heather, a true paradise for passionate mushroom hunters. The track crosses the entire ridge, gently sloping down towards the valley of the Fersinone stream, right below the town of Pornello in the municipality of San Venanzo. The landscape is of an intense green and a wild beauty and accompanies us up to the indications for Montegiove whose fortified village after a while can be seen, with the unmistakable silhouette of the medieval castle of which traces are known since the early thirteenth century .
From there, continuing towards Montegabbione, a dirt road is immediately intercepted which becoming gradually steeper and more bumpy, through changes in slope and with some intersections, leads to the top of Montarale touching the highest point of the itinerary (854 m). The last, easier stretch is the final part of the dirt road that climbs up from Montegabbione. Arrived at the top, cross the equipped area and descend on the other side along a path that descends abruptly.
The path leads near Greppolischieto but before reaching the village, turn left, descending through dense woods, to then arrive between various ups and downs to the small inhabited areas of Casa Martino and Pratalenza. The road, meanwhile, become asphalted, passes under Ponibbiale and, with a very sharp descent, quickly returns to Piegaro and to the starting point.
