Descrizione

Located in the territory of the Municipality of Tuoro sul Trasimeno, it is the only one inhabited. It still retains the characteristic appearance of the fifteenth-century village created by fishermen.

In 1211 St. Francis of Assisi went there as a hermitage for Lent; still today it is possible to admire the chapel that recalls the landing after the crossing of the Trasimeno lake in storm, and the rock where the saint stopped to pray.

The tradition of “Irish stitch" lace is one of the flagships of Isola Maggiore. The main places to visit included in the “Isola Maggiore Museum Circuit" are:

Lace Museum,
Church of S. Michele Arcangelo,
Captain’s House,
Church of S. Salvatore.
