Description

“On the border between Umbria and Tuscany stands an enchanting village built over centuries of history, Castiglione protects the Trasimeno while reflecting its profile in the waters of the lake".

The most important place in the city is undoubtedly Palazzo della Corgna.

Initially born as a villa, it was later transformed into the court palace of the dynasty.

Today it is the seat of important cultural activities, but above all it hosts an articulated museum itinerary, which illustrates the events of the della Corgna, painted by the famous painter Niccolò Circignani known as Pomarancio.

The Rocca del Leone is connected to Palazzo della Corgna; military fortification, built starting from the second half of the 12th century on the remains of an Etruscan acropolis.

The pentagonal fortress was modified by Frederick of Swabia in relation to the astronomical sign of Leo; around 1310 the Keep was added, which overlooks the entire perimeter of Lake Trasimeno and its wonderful landscapes.

Inside the fortress are the ruins of a church dedicated to Saints Philip and James, probably of Byzantine origin.

Within the walls of the castle there is an impressive amphitheater where art shows alternate throughout the summer.
